De-Escalation Training Induction | Module Two

Personal Safety

Personal safety refers to the ability and right to live without the threat or fear of psychological, emotional, or physical harm from others.

It encompasses practices and precautions individuals can take to protect themselves in various environments, including being aware of surroundings and avoiding risky situations.

Assessing Risk

In the context of de-escalation, Risk assessment is a systematic process of identifying, analysing, and controlling an escalation and identifying risks that are present in the situation or a place of escalation occurrence.

It is used by individuals (and organisations) to assess the probability that an adverse event might negatively impact a person or persons, a project, or organisation.

The process involves identifying risk factors, analysing and evaluating the risk associated with that risk, and determining appropriate ways to eliminate or control the risk when the risk cannot be eliminated.

Disengaging

In the context of de-escalation, "disengaging" refers to the act of becoming physically separated from a situation of risk or removing oneself from involvement.
